It was our pleasure to have know Juanita as she was our tenant in Gulfport, FL. I always thought that she was such a neat lady…full of life and spunk! Our memories of Juanita will always stay with us. We missed her when she left Gulfport, and will always miss her! Our prayers are with her family and friends.
My dear Aunt “E”, you took good care of me when I was little and were my friend when I was older. Always my nurturing and caring Aunt. I miss you.
I first met Juanita in 1965 when I moved to Wilmington, DE, and Juanita’s daughter, Chris, and I became fast friends.
Juanita was so very different from my mother, so stylish and assertive. I never felt judged by her. Once, when I made a very foolish mistake and was so scared that I could have hurt someone, Juanita did not scold. Instead she took down her copy of Kahlil Gibran’s book, The Profit, and read meaningful passages to me. I cannot recall the passages, but I remember how she made me feel forgiven.
I remember another time she told a story about her wonderful friend, Mary, and how some man, maybe a boss, told Juanita of something that Mary did that was not nice or appropriate (I forget what it was). Juanita simply told the man that Mary would never do such a thing and that he should never repeat it again. She then phoned Mary to see if she had done such a thing. She would stick up for a friend unconditionally. Good lesson to learn.
Over the 50 years I’ve know Juanita she has written me many cards and letters and has referred to herself as my Mommy Juan. How dear she was.
I have many funny memories and many poignant memories of Juanita, but my best memories are how loved and valuable she made me feel. I will miss her.
We love you Juanita. You will be greatly missed. I will not miss anymore appointments…lol!!! Prayers and warm thoughts be with you Chris. You are a fantastic daughter and took excellent care of mom!
I have very fond memories of my Aunt “E”. I miss her dearly. She visited me years ago when my daughters were young and they also fell in love with their Aunt “E”
I remember the first time I met Juanita in the Florida Keys. She was a pistol, take charge woman who possessed compassion and caring for everyone she met. She was a wise and sharp business woman. I lost track of her when she moved to Gulfport, but she was happy and healthy the last time I saw her. We will miss having Juanita on the planet! Chris, I know you were her life and and I am glad she was in Texas near you. The end of an era.
