Obituary

Joan Marie Talty, age 59, of Carrollton, Texas passed away on October 19, 2015 of complications from pneumonia, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.  A memorial rosary will be held at 10:00 A.M. followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Farmers Branch. She is survived by her husband, Francis Talty; her children Heather Wood (Talty), Natalie Hiler (Talty), and Tedd Talty; children’s spouses Cameron Wood and Mark Hiler, and 3 grandchildren Hailey and Madeline Hiler, and Michael Wood. Joan met the love of her life, Fran, in Dallas and they were married in March of 1979 and finally settled in Carrollton. They made a wonderful life raising their 3 children, whom she often praised for their accomplishments.  She was a stay at home mom who had a passion for cooking and enjoyed helping people.  Joan loved cooking for the masses, always resulting in great leftovers at the house.  She was known for her State Fair award winning brownies and her Thanksgiving feasts.  Joan was a great friend to many, who took every opportunity to chat with friends near and far. She will truly be missed by family and friends, who take comfort in knowing she is no longer in any pain and will be reunited with her loved ones once again. In lieu of flowers and gifts the family asks you donate to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.  http://main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/joantalty

Joan was such a bright spirit! In spite of all of her problems with herself and Fran she always seemed to me to be happy. She looked at life as a glass half full! Even when she complained it was always with a wink and a smile. She loved her kids and her granddaughter. It’s so sad that she is gone – I will miss her. I sure wish I had that recipe for her brownies! 🙂

My deepest sympathies. I had the pleasure of getting to know Joan through Autumn Leaves this past summer. It was such a blessing to have known her for the time short time I did. I hope that it gives some measure of comfort to know that she was an inspiration to so many people and touched so many lives.

What a sad loss for her family and for those who knew her. Even through her most recent challenges, Joan never lost her enthusiasm for life, her sense of humor and willingness to help those around her. She was always the best champion for her children and anyone else’s kids, including mine. Her brilliant smile and gregarious laugh will make the world a bit more dim but you know she is lighting up heaven. We will miss you Joan.

Your mother was one of the best people I ever knew, and her loss is also saddest for me. I hope each of you know that you hold a special place in your Mom’s heart and how deeply she loves you and how proud she was of your accomplishments. You three meant the world to her as so did Fran. Her MS seemed to be getting more aggressive and she was having problems with simple things. I remember the day Joan called to let me know that Hailey would be living with her shortly and how excited she was to have her granddaughter living with her.I told her that was a blessing in disguise knowing they would be there to help her when she needed it. In this time of sorrow, I send my heartfelt condolences to your family. I will miss my friend & think of her often and knowing that she is with God will help with her loss ~ Peace be with all of you.

Our neighborhood has not been the same since Joan’s passing…she brought rays of sunshine even on cloudy days…I do not believe I ever saw her without a smile on her face despite her condition with MS along with her partner and best friend who was dealing with Alzheimer’s….she always looked on the bright side of things…the times she would call me up on the phone she would always put me in a good mood with her uplifting spirit…She was such a kind and understanding person who did not judge and who would hold things in confidence. She would bake brownies on my son’s and daughter’s birthday…the best brownies ever! I will forever remember her for her wonderful outlook on life, for her biggest treasure being her wonderful family and just the wonderful friend that she was…Death is only a temporary separation..we all meet again but it is the time in between that makes it so so difficult…Rest in peace Joan and thanks for all that you did for us…Prayers and hugs go out to the family at this very difficult time…Brad, Rhonda and Zach Taylor

It’s been over a year now since you passed Joan. I’ve missed our tslks on the phone – espeecially after losing Steve. You were always there to offer me strength when I felt so sad. We had a special connection from the very start since both of our first born children came into this world on the exact same day & year! I always admired you and to your family just know that your Mom was extraordinary and loved by many. She is missed every day.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
