Obituary

Elsie Helen Pribila Kucera passed away peacefully in Dallas at the age of 92 on November 18, 2015 after a brief illness.   She remained cheerful and in high spirits right up until her passing.  Elsie was born in New Jersey on September 3, 1923 and attended  Memorial High School in West New York, NJ.  She worked at Western Electric in the administrative office after graduating.  She married John Kucera in 1947 and they lived together in Guttenberg until April 1986 when John died.  After John’s death, Elsie continued to live in Guttenberg among her relatives and friends.  She made her first travel by plane in 1996 to visit her daughter, Eileen , and family in Vienna, Austria .  She enjoyed her summer stay in Europe sightseeing in Austria and visiting the homeland of her ancestors in Slovakia and the Czech republic.  After her return from Vienna she remained in Guttenberg until 2006 when she moved to Dallas to live with her only child, Eileen and her family. Elsie adjusted to life after the move from the east coast to the sunny southwest.            She was  always the “cup half full” person, kind and thoughtful, with a great sense of humor.  She was talented in sewing, embroidery, and crochet with a legacy of beautiful pieces.  Her family will long be trying to match her cooking abilities with her wonderful traditional Eastern European recipes served on magnificent ‘works of art’ china and porcelain.  As a member of the Sokols Club, she adhered to the theme of “Healthy mind and body” throughout her life, winning a  bronze medal in gymnastics in her younger days.  She never held a driver’s license relying on her own two feet to take her where she needed to go, truly a self sufficient woman with a heart of gold.           Her grandchildren were a source of pride to her and she loved being with the great grandchildren.  She attended services at Holy Trinity Church and Christ the King where she was a member of the Altar society.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kucera.  She is survived by her daughter, Eileen and her husband Rudy Moras, grand children: Christopher, Penelope and her husband Daniel Fontenot,  and Angela and great grandchildren Nicholas and Andrew.  She also has numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews most of whom live in New Jersey and California.  She will be missed by all for kindness, sense of humor and commitment to her family.   Arrangements under the direction of: ARIA Cremation Service & Funeral Home 10116 E. She was a wonderful woman and the mother of a childhood friend Eileen. In later years while she was still in Guttenberg I used to stop in for a visit and we had our monthly tea together. Fond memories of a wonderful lady. Condolences to Eileen and all the loved ones.

Truly sorry for you and the families’ great loss and that we barely got to know her! Mike and I remember Elsie as such a vibrant bundle of energy, joy and openness whenever we visited you in Dallas, those too few times. We knew her as a sharp lady with a wonderful sense of humor but not how active and fit she was back in New Jersey! We are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers and know you have a wealth of happy memories of her to cherish. God bless you all.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
