Knight, Robert "Bob" P.
Obituary
Robert (Bob) Paul Knight, 77, a longtime resident of Dallas, Texas, died peacefully December 5th, at Medical City Dallas. Born in Montour Falls, New York on December 13, 1937, he was the son of the late George Knight and Evelyn (Schick) Knight. He was a 1955 graduate of Odessa High School and graduated from The Unites States Merchant Marine Academy with a Bachelor of Science in 1959. Mr. Knight served briefly in the U.S Navy upon graduation aboard the USNS Buttner and then sailed as a deck officer aboard commercial merchant vessels with Masters Mates & Pilots traveling the world’s oceans. In 1964, he then embarked on a career in electronics working for Westinghouse and Raytheon in senior sales positions in their vacuum tube divisions in the Northeast before accepting a position with Thordarson Transformers in Dallas in 1978. In 1979, Mr. Knight started a new career as an entrepreneur creating SW Marketing Associates, Knight Electronics, Inc. and Orion Fans. The company did very well, earning a spot in INC 500’s fastest growing privately held companies in the U.S in 1986. Knight Electronics further expanded into offshore manufacturing to enable U.S manufacturing companies to become more cost competitive. Fully committed to these endeavors, Bob continued to come to work to “show the flag” daily whenever health would permit. He was a 37-year member of the Electronic Representatives Association and ECIA; he was a co-founding member of the United States Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association North Texas Chapter and an avid and skilled lifelong bowler. Bob is survived by his wife Eugenia, son John and wife Gina of Dallas, TX and son Kevin and wife Melissa of Wheaton IL, and his 3 grandchildren: Donna, Victoria, and Ivy He was also predeceased by a brother, John and his wife Celia. Bob was very passionate about his grandchildren and world travel and spent decades expanding his understanding of other places and cultures and passed that passion on to his family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday December 11th at 1:30 pm at: All Saints Catholic Church 5231 Meadowcreek Drive Dallas, Texas 75248 Those who knew Bob well knew that he was a huge supporter and fan of his Alma Mater, the United States Merchant Marine Academy and liked to help the midshipmen whenever he could.
