Girdwood, William "Bill" P.
Obituary
It is with regret that we announce the passing of William P. Girdwood of Robson Ranch, Denton, Texas. Bill passed away quietly in his sleep at 7:00 AM on Sunday, December 27, 2015, as a result of cancer. Bill is survived by his wife, Aree Girdwood, his sister, Marilyn Batey, his children, Todd Girdwood, Don Girdwood, and Anne Thomas. Bill’s grandchildren are Anthea Lafreniere, Sarah Girdwood, Jean Girdwood, Elise Girdwood, Devan Thomas, and Dylan Thomas. He is pre-deceased by his wife Jean McCrae Girdwood, who passed away in 1981; the mother of Todd, Don, and Anne. Bill was born October 16, 1931 in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada, on the beautiful Georgian Bay. Bill attended high school at Collingwood Collegiate. The Collingwood area is where he met Jean McCrae of Guelph, while she was up cottaging at Craigleith. They were married in 1955 and Todd was born in 1956. Bill and Jean later moved to Arizona, USA, where Don was born, and later to California, where they had Anne. Jean passed away in 1981. In the years following, Bill continued to work hard at developing his business, Spectra-Tone Paints, until his retirement in 2006. In 2007, Bill moved to Texas, settling in Robson Ranch, in Denton. Anne was already living in the Texas, and later, Don ended up living in Dallas. Bill was also in a long term relationship with Aree Jaroensant, and in March 2014, Bill and Aree were married. Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed athletics, skiing, bicycling, and playing handball and racquetball whenever he got the chance. At Robson Ranch, Bill became known for his dedication to pickleball and ping pong. In the fall of 2015, Bill became ill and after months of putting up a tough fight, supported by Aree and family, he lost his battle with cancer in December. Bill will be interred with Jean in Guelph, Ontario. Aree will also have a role in the disposition of Bill’s remains. An informal “Celebration of Life” will be held at the Robson Ranch Clubhouse, on Sunday, January 3, 2016 in the Medina-Bandera Rooms from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Casual dress. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org).
