Obituary

Leslye Ann Thomason passed on January 5, 2016, letting go after one last Christmas – her favorite time of year – and seeing her family from St. Louis, MO, the place she always considered home. A reserved but strong woman with unwavering faith in God, she dedicated her life to her youngest son, her faith, her family, and helping others. Born in St. Louis, on June 15, 1952, she moved to Irving, TX, with her family in 1966 and settled in Frisco in 1981. She worked as an accountant for Austin Paving until the birth of her youngest son and continued as an accountant for the Frisco Independent School District from 2002 on. Leslye loved cooking, baking, arts & crafts, being a mother, smooth jazz, and the Dallas Arboretum. Faith was one of the most important things in her life, helping her through the hardest of times, and she was an active member of Stonebriar Community Church. She constantly sacrificed to give her son a better life than she had, feeling her only job was to raise him into a good man. She imparted many values, in particular always stressing the importance of education. Receiving her associates degree from Collin College in 2004, completed through night school while working full time and raising her son, was one of her proudest achievements. Leslye is survived by her son, Daniel; mother, Lorraine; sister, Lynda; brothers, Tony and Rick; nieces Angie, Cara, Michelle, and Lacy; goddaughter, Allyson; sister-in-faith, Phyllis James; close friends Debra Skertich, Barbara Irby, and Terry Latimer; and a host of other relatives and friends in Dallas and St. Louis. Viewing, visitation and funeral service will be held Friday, January 8, 2016, 12:30 to 2:30 pm at Frisco Heritage Center Chapel 6321 Page Street, Frisco, TX 75034 with burial to follow, 3:30 pm at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expy, Allen, TX 75013. In lieu of flowers, please support what she supported by donating to Collin College at collin.edu or Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden at dallasarboretum.org. Arrangements are under the direction of: Aria Cremation Service & Funeral Home 10116 E. NW Highway Dallas, Texas 75238 214.340.8008

I have had the opportunity to work in FISD with your mother for years, and I’d run into her at Kroger on Stonebrook & Preston. She was always smiling, and she will be missed. However, she’s free of pain and suffering.

I am so sorry that I did not know about Leslye’s illness. It has been almost 8 years since I retired, and I am not always aware of everything that goes on with the wonderful people in FISD. Daniel, your mom spent many hours talking to me when you were at Rogers, always trying to make the best decisions for you as well as trying to help find ways to open doors for you to learn how to make your own decisions based on whatever information she had researched and could share. She loved you so very much, and I am sure you know that. Having two sons myself, I could readily identify with her questions and concerns. She wanted to be the best mother possible. I understand that she fought a courageous battle against cancer. I lost my husband to pancreatic cancer, and I know the toll it takes on a family as well as on the person who battles it head on. I want you to know just how very sorry I am that I did not have a chance to say good-bye to her. I will remember her as a gracious, strong lady who exemplified courage and integrity. I am sending a huge hug your way. She will be greatly missed by those she touched. You were her life and her hope for the future.

Daniel, I’m sorry to hear about your loss. We used to be best friends in middle school and she would always cook us snacks while we played. I remember her as such a sweet mom and always accomodating to what we wanted to do. I’m very sorry for your loss.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
