Long, Raymond E.
Obituary
Raymond E. Long went to be with the Lord with all of his family by his side on January 30, 2016. Raymond “Ray” Long lived a very full 83 years. He was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Bill and Annie Long. He had a brother Billy Long and three sisters, Betty Leatherbury, Helen Carver and Mavis Donelson. Ray spent his childhood in Wichita Falls before joining the United States Army. After his time in the Army he had many adventures, including owning a gym in Lubbock, Texas to joining the Gainesville Circus where he was an accomplished trapeze artist, tight rope walker along with many other skills he performed. He later met the love of his life Syandra Matar Long while she was a student at Midwestern University. They married and moved to Dallas and started their family. They had daughters Lori Long Price and Lisa Long Griffin before moving to Irving where they purchased their first home that they lived in for over 50 years. They continued to grow their family having daughters Kelly Long Jones, Rebecca Long Mott, Amy Long Hanks and their son Michael Ray Long. Ray was a very skilled architect and designed numerous restaurants and hotels in the DFW area. Eventually he started his own construction company where he was able to design and build. As his children grew older he and Syandra were able to fulfill their dreams of traveling that took them on adventures to England, Hawaii and many cruises including The Queen Mary. Ray was loved by everyone who met him. He had a kind heart a huge smile and was always whistling a tune. Ray loved to dance and he and Syandra spent many Saturday nights with friends out dancing. Ray lived such a full life and was able to comfort his children with the knowledge that he has enjoyed every aspect of his life. Ray has left a large legacy including 6 children, 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 4 son in laws and many nieces and nephews. Ray will be missed by so many but all take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his wife of 47 years and is with his Lord and Savior.
