Richard I will always remember you as good friend and tennis player, for your contribution to my Stamp collection hobby with Swedish stamps.
Rest in Peace. Rey
I met Richard along w/my future husband 3/17/93 at a dance club. He gave a toast at our wedding & continued to visit my Richard as he died from alzheimer’s 3/23/14.We talked frequently during hockey games & laughed a lot. He came when he went to his dentist in Garland & would be talking English & then slip into Swedish. I had to remind him that even though I tried, I only spoke English. A dear friend & I miss him.
Sorry to here that Richard past away I will always remember him as a friend and tennis partner.
So sorry to hear about the passing of
Richard. I will miss my friend and
tennis partner.
Marge and I will miss you Richard. You were a kind and gentle man.
Al and I will miss Richard so much. We knew him from way back – he was always present when there was a Swedish get-together- at parties, holidays or faires. We loved his singing and his humor; his Swedish jokes were famous. He was highly valued as a VASA member and as a Tomten (Santa Claus) for all the children at innumerable Swedish Christmas celebrations.
I liked Richard’s energy and cheerful spirit. He was a rare hambo partner and looked to be sure everyone at a party was having a good time.
Al and I will miss Richard so much; we will miss his singing and his funny Swedish jokes. He was a constant presence at so many VASA meetings and dinners we had together; they will not be same without him. We will also miss him as the inimitable “Tomten” – the Swedish Santa Claus – at our Swedish Christmas celebrations.
I had the chance to visit my 85 year old Swedish-American tennis friend, Richard Olin, on Wednesday March 23, 2016, after learning he was in the hospital. When I held his left hand he opened his eyes and smiled. He smiled several more times and nodded his head as I talked with him about the fun times we had playing tennis and him calling my tennis racquet “Big Bertha” because of my ability to hit hard serves and overhead smashes. At times, we would take a train to downtown Dallas from Plano to watch a Swedish Night Dallas Stars hockey game and being able to meet several of the Swedish players afterward, going to dinner with him before a game. Most of all I remember his congenital personality and discussions we had together. Richard did love to watch hockey and play tennis.
I received a telephone call on Thursday morning with information that Richard had passed away during the night. I am so glad that I learned about his condition and had the opportunity to see my friend one last time.
A very sad occasion. May my friend, Richard Olin, rest in peace?
