Obituary

Ursula Holubec, age 82, of Plano, TX, passed away on March 26, 2016 following a chronic illness. She was born to Willie and Erna Koch in Orange Grove, TX. After graduating from Orange Grove High School, she joined the Womens Army Corps (WACs) and proudly served until meeting and later marrying John E. Holubec on July 31, 1954. They had four children, Deborah, Ted, Jerry and Karen and eventually settled in San Antonio, TX. John and Ursula were married 56 yrs. Ursula always had her hands full with taking care of the kids, the household and working full time at USAA insurance. They were members of St. Pius Catholic X Church. After working twenty-five years at USAA Insurance Company, she retired. She and John, who had retired earlier, then moved to Harwood and later Gonzales, TX to live. They loved living on a thirty-three acre farm with a small garden and a few cattle to tend.  Her time was divided among maintaining her flower gardens and canning summer vegetables and making jams and jellies. They were active members of St. James Catholic Community. Ursula was a member of the Catholic Daughters and Altar Society organizations and regularly volunteered to clean and maintain the sacristy. She and husband, John, served as election judge and election clerk around election time and she continued her patriotic duty through being a member and later treasurer of the American Legion Auxiliary. In addition she was an active member and vice president at one time in the Gonzales Hospital Auxiliary.  In 2005, she won runner up in the Conservation Homemaker division in the Texas Soil and Water Conservation program. The Awards Banquet was held in Victoria, TX. The winners for the various awards were selected from 52 counties in Central and South Texas.  She was nominated due to her being involved in so many organizations that touched so many peoples’ lives. Lastly she also belonged to a reading club to discuss the ‘book of the month’ as she always loved to read. She enjoyed her monthly Bunco club and 42 Domino club. After husband, John, passed away in 2010, she relocated to Plano, TX to be closer to family. Ursula enjoyed living and interacting with the residents at Preston Place Apt community and participating in apt community activities such as bingo, chair aerobics, and chair volleyball. (Ursula LOVED playing volleyball when she was in high school) Faith, family, fellowship, the community and our country remained an all-encompassing life for Ursula. Ursula was always so kind & accepting. Many friends and family could show up all at once and she would be there with open arms to welcome everyone. She always made us feel like family. She and John would always take time for church no matter who was at the house as guests. I will miss her but she is now at peace in the loving arms of our Lord.

When we had our farm in Harwood Ursula & I would sit on the porch while John & Jim would be at the barn enjoying each others company or playing 42. It was a pleasure to be around two special friends who brought fresh vegetables for our shared meals together. We treasure the many special weekends we shared together. We miss them.

My mother(God rest her soul) and I met Ursula(God rest her soul) and Karen while traveling in 2000 to Egypt. Immediately a beautiful friendship developed. I thought Ursula was such beautiful person inside and out. We all would spend breakfast together and then go sight seeing daily. Ursula and my mother would talk away while me and Karen did the same. I will never forget the kindness they brought into our lives that year and how it continues. And now I have such wonderful memories. Thank you God for placing Ursula and her daughter into my life. God bless the family during this difficult time. But deep inside I know Ursula is pain free and enjoying her time with her husband up in heaven.

My deepest condolences to the Holubec family. So many of us have missed Ursula since she moved to the Dallas area. She always had a wonderful smile and a big hug for everyone! She and I loved to laugh, so you know we hit it off quick. Serious conversations of current events were always included however all were too far between – I treasured each time we were able to visit; she could share so much knowledge in such a short time. I know her and John are dancing their heels off now. Blessings to you all, she was so proud of each of you. Deidra Voigt, Gonzales Texas

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
