Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Wayne Dilda was born June 3, 1947 in Wilmington, North Carolina and passed away at home in Mesquite, Texas on April 3, 2016. Larry was a beloved father, son, brother, grandfather, and a great friend to many. Larry graduated from New Hanover High School – Class of 66’ in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he had many fond childhood memories and where his lifelong love of the beach began.  Larry valued being a hard worker and started at an early age turning a hobby into work by digging for clams at Wrightsville Beach and selling them to local residents, in competition with restaurants selling them for three times the price. He always wanted to work hard, help others, and have some fun along the way. After high school, Larry went on to lead a full life continuing to live by these principles, and excelled at every job he held from construction, plumbing, welding, pipe fitting, chemical specialization, and computer aided drafting. He was a “jack of all trades” and known for always being willing to give a helping hand when needed. Larry lived in many places across the U.S., eventually settling in Mesquite, Texas where he has resided for over 30 years. Larry made a lasting impression to everyone he came across with his beautiful smile, infectious laugh, and his boisterous, quipster personality. He loved to make those around him smile and feel his love, and you could expect him to celebrate your birthday by shouting, instead of singing, the “Happy Birthday” song, just to let you know how special you were to him. He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ann Pruitt Dilda and Claudias Jonas Dilda; and brother, Jerry (Carolyn) Dilda all of Wilmington, NC. He is survived by his four sons, Christopher (Jennifer) Dilda of Frisco, TX; Brent (Lisa) Turner of Onalaska, WI; Brady (Dana) Dilda of Fort Scott, KS; Ryan (Karen) Dilda of Vero Beach, FL; and his six grandchildren he was a beloved “Paw Paw” to: Cameron, Alex, Sadie, Bryanna, Jack and Jayden. In addition to his immediate family, there are countless others he is preceded and survived by including in-laws, cousins, parents-in-law, and great friends that Larry held dear to his heart and considered family. A memorial service dedicated to the celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10 at Aría Funeral Home, 19310 Preston Road, Dallas, TX 75252.   Arrangements are under the direction of: ARIA Cremation Service & Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700

Sending my condolences to Larry’s family. Way back when I was a teenager, a van pulled up in the front of my house in Houston, Texas. It was Larry and about 4 friends that needed a place to rest for the night. He was my dads half brother Eugene Dilda. Have very fond memories of that short visit. Needless, to say I never seen or heard from him again! May he rest in peace…

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
