Jackson, David L.
Obituary
David Lee Jackson, 43, passed away suddenly of a heart attack at his home on April 25, 2016. Born in Dallas on August 24, 1972, Lee grew up in University Park. After high school graduation, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. A talented guitar player and songwriter, he formed the rock band Judge Jackson with his best friend, Todd McTavish. J. J. Garcia and Brian Eakin also joined the band. They released ten albums, extensively toured the Western states, and garnered thousands of fans. They had song placements during the Super Bowl and many NFL, NBA, and NHL games. Lee lived his dreams. With over a decade of sobriety, he was a successful and involved member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he inspired countless others. Toward the end of his life, he returned to Texas to start a family. Lee’s passions were guitars, guns, dogs, history, and the outdoors. We will miss Lee’s kind, generous spirit and beautiful smile. Lee is survived by his fiancée Tonice Scott, Brenna, 6, and Leah, 15 months old. He is also survived by his parents David and Ginger Jackson, brother Forrest Jackson, sister Sally Jackson and nephew Jackson Galbraith of Dallas; uncle Frederic Forrest of Santa Monica, CA; uncle Albert Jackson of Houston, and uncle and aunt Dr. John and Margie Haley of Dallas. An informal celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 24 at 1:30 PM at Winfrey Point House, 950 East Lawther Drive, Dallas 75218 (accessible from Garland Rd.). In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in David Lee Jackson’s name to All Border Collie Rescue, PO Box 130251, The Woodlands, TX 77393. Kind, ambitious, someone you could depend on to always do the right thing, funny, of course talented song writer / musician / singer, reliable, handled responsibilities with joy and vigor, someone who brought a lot of fun and good times to many. Heaven is lucky.
Mike and I were so saddened to learn about Lee’s death last week and all of your family has been in our thoughts and prayers. We hope it is a small comfort at this time to know your friends care and share your grief. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy at this sad time.
With deepest sympathy, Anne and Mike Holt
Ginger and David, I am so sorry to hear about Lee. I know that leaves a big hole and takes time to heal.
My prayers are with you and Lee. If I can help in any way, let me know.
Bill
My heartfelt condolences. May the God of all comfort be with David’s family and friends during this time of intense grief and always. (1 cor 1:3,4) I’m so sorry for your loss. (Isaiah 25:8)
It hurt me so much to learn of Lee’s passing. I remember him as a little boy, and particularly, when he and I once drove to Jack County and ate lunch at a delicious BBQ restaurant. It was a delight to be with him. Obviously, he was a talented musician with the wisdom to call his band Judge Jackson. I wish all the Jackson family peace. You are terrific people and wonderful friends.
Our prayers are with your family. With deepest sympathy
I was very sad to hear about Lee’s passing. I knew Lee when we were in school together and I know his family must have been very proud of him. He made a positive impact on a lot of people. I am so sorry for your loss.
I assume you are waiting until Freddie can come to the service for Lee. We plan to see you then. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of your family.
I only knew you for such a short time. You were always a bright spot when I visited the store. I will miss that smile. Rest in peace my friend.
I am so sorry for your loss, if you or your family need anything, just call on me.

Sally, Forrest, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson- my thoughts are with you all. I can remember as if it was just yesterday those countless days at the house on Golf Dr. listening to Lee play his guitar, learning all of those classic blues songs with Page running around. The angels are surely hearing some wonderful riffs as he plays for them. I love you all, Lee was a special soul.
