Smith, Jonathan "Greg"
Obituary
Greg Smith, born Jonathan Gregory Smith and known as “Gig”, died last week at his home in Carrollton, TX. Greg was 62 years old. Greg was the son of Sidney “Ted” Smith and Dorothy Buckingham Smith. He was the youngest of three children. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and his older sister. He is survived by his older brother, Tom, two nieces, Heather Jones-Pryor and Joanna Jones, and two nephews, Tyler and Chadwick Smith. He was greatly loved by his step-family, Joyce Smith and her two sons, Alan and Karl Goerner and their families. Greg was an accomplished chef, having worked at a variety of fine restaurants and country clubs in the Kansas City area. In addition, he worked in the Davenport, IA area and had his own TV show. He had been retired for the last 7 years, but was still legendary within his growing family circle for his catering of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Greg was a man of unusual interests with an encyclopedic knowledge of classic rock, vintage cars and movies from the 30’s through the 70’s. Often a cantankerous soul, he railed about the stupidity of politicians, Texas drivers and celebrity chefs. He was kind to those he felt were trying their best and caring to those who needed him. He was creative and artistic at unexpected moments. He is greatly missed by his family and by his dog Liam.
