Hadigian, Dorothy Linnea
Obituary
Dorothy Linnea Hadigian, formerly of Double Oak, TX and Franklin Lakes, NJ, died peacefully amidst a booming thunderstorm Tuesday, April 27, 2016 at the age of 95. Born September 2, 1920, Dorothy was the eldest child of Carl Sherman and Alma Emelia Jonasson, Swedish immigrants who settled in the New York metropolitan region in the years post-World War I. Dorothy worked as an administrative assistant in the Office of the Superintendent of Belleville Public Schools, Belleville, New Jersey for twenty years before moving to Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, where she and her husband raised two sons. After moving to Texas in the 1982, Dorothy was active in the community, serving for many years as a tutor for learning disadvantaged children in Flower Mound, and as a volunteer for Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Dallas. Dorothy will be remembered as strong-willed and a natural leader, a take charge and “get things done” individual, but also a kind, sweet, elegant, generous, and caring person. Dorothy loved to discuss politics and world events, was a fierce competitor in bridge and backgammon, enjoyed horticulture and gardening, sewing and crochet, and was an avid collector and curator of antiques and Swedish folk art and cultural items. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend, and her presence will be missed. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Howard, sisters Martha Palmer, Norma Wille, and Eleanor Long, and brother Richard Sherman. She is survived by sons Carl and David, daughters-in-law Debra and Dana, and grandchildren, Eric, Sara, Emily, and Luke. Per family wishes, services are private. Please consider making a donation in Dorothy’s name to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700
