Obituary

Joseph A. Augustini, 82, of Allen, Texas, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, due to complications from contracting Covid-19. He was born Oct. 21, 1938, in Olean, NY, to parents Florence (Franzi) and John Augustini Sr. He graduated from Olean High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1956 to 1960, where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He served in the reserves when he returned home. He married Jane (Reynolds) Augustini on Aug. 19, 1960, and they celebrated their 60th anniversary a few months before his death. He was a longtime insurance salesman and broker until he retired in 1996. He was a fourth-degree black belt in Taekwondo and taught the martial art in the Houston area for many years. Joe relished life and often joked around with others. The sound of his warm, booming laugh was almost guaranteed when in his presence. He enjoyed being with family, swimming and the beach, practicing Taekwondo, playing poker and chess, going to the horse races, listening to music, singing, and eating pasta. He also loved watching westerns, “Columbo,” “The Rockford Files,” “Frazier” and “Star Trek” on TV. He’d get excited when a new “Star Wars” film was released. He had a passion for mathematics and the cosmos and often read books on the subjects. He was fascinated by Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity and Stephen Hawking’s look into black holes. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Joe is survived by his loving wife Jane; daughters, Tammy (Les) Bird of LaPorte, Texas, and Gina (Kent) Best of Plano, Texas; son, Mark (Melissa) Augustini of Tennessee; sister, Mary Augustini of Philadelphia; brother, Carmen of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; eight grandchildren, Jason Currey of Wichita Falls, Texas, David Augustini of Allen, Texas, Amber O’Brien of Wichita Falls, Texas, Jake Augustini of Charleston, S.C., Tiffany Rodriguez of LaPorte, Texas, Emily Augustini of Galveston, Texas, Joseph Augustini of Boise, Idaho, and Annelise Best of Plano, Texas; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Rosie Augustini Mills; and brothers, John Jr., Anthony, Larry and Frank Augustini. A funeral mass is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1515 N. Greenville Ave. in Allen, TX, 70052. Due to Covid restrictions and precautions, masks will be required at the service, seating will be at safe distances, and there will not be a reception following the mass. The service will be live streamed for those unable to physically attend. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Joe’s name to Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County in Plano, Texas, or Catholic Charities.

Uncle Joe…though it was tears since I saw you, it seems like yesterday since you were pouring cold spaghetti sauce on our noodles!!! You were always happy and positive, traits hard to ring in some, but never in you! Godspeed Uncle! I pray you’ve found peace and happiness in the ever after. xoxo

It’s two weeks ago today that we lost you to Covid-19 complications, Papa. We miss you so much, but we’re thankful you’re not suffering anymore. You fought valiantly. I know you’re happy being reunited with Grandma, Uncle Johnny, Uncle Tony, Aunt Rosie, Uncle Larry, and Uncle Frank. Bet you guys are enjoying great food, lots of songs, and endless rounds of poker games. (Like I always say, my money’s on Aunt Rosie!) One day we’ll see you again. Save a seat at the table for us, Papa. Love you always. xoxo — Gina

I trained with Joe for many years in good old Pasadena Texas. He was a great kind, strong man who loved sharing his martial arts and keeping Master Kims martial arts alive. I lost contact with Joe in the late 90’s and often thought of him and failed to reconnect. I am sorry to hear about his passing and wish his family peace. I will pray for Joe and his family and will honor him on all Souls day. May the peace of the Lord be with Joe and his family always. Jeff his student and friend.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
