Bassett, Catherine
Obituary
Catherine Bassett, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 30, 2019 after losing her lengthy battle with heart disease. She was 50 years old. Catherine is survived by her sons, Matthew, Patrick, and Brian, and her daughter Ashley Holmes, her husband Bryan, and grandson, Jaxson Holmes. Catherine is also survived by her mother, Mary Bassett, brother Tom and wife Kathie, her sister Elizabeth, and brother Samuel and his wife Jennifer. Her beloved service dog, Rusty, and her father, Albert Bassett, preceded her in death. Catherine was born in Orange, California on September 30, 1968. She graduated from North Texas State University in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in Education. Following a career in teaching, Catherine became a real estate broker. As a young adult, Catherine developed a heart disease, late in pregnancy, called Peripartum Cardiomyopathy (PPCM), forcing her to limit her daily activities. She became an advocate for the early detection of PPCM and traveled extensively in her last year with her favorite traveling companion, Rusty, her 14-year old lab, with the goal of meeting as many of her “heart sisters” as she could. Catherine’s foremost missions in her life were raising her children to adulthood and advocating for the early detection of PPCM in expectant mothers.
Catherine will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her positive outlook on life, and her inspirational connection with her fellow “heart sisters.”
A memorial service will be held Friday June 28 at 11:30 AM Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Carrollton, Texas
