Bossart, Stephen W.
Obituary
Stephen Wayne Bossart passed away at the age of 63 peacefully in his sleep Thursday morning, May 16, 2013 in the presence of his loving wife of forty years, Mary Beth, due to complications from ALS. He is survived by his four children Rebecca, Paul, Matthew and Philip and their respective partners Ryan, Erin, Kathryn and Kirsten, two grandchildren Jeffrey and Owen, brother Patrick, sisters Georgia, Susan and Cheryl and their respective families as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Mattie Imogene and Albert Francis Bossart, his brothers Albert and Anthony Bossart and sister, Donna Lund. Steve, born in Jacksonville, Texas on November 8, 1949, graduated from Orange High School prior to matriculating to University of North Texas where he met and married Mary Beth Balkey beginning an adventure that lasted forty-one years. Transferring to Southern Methodist University, he graduated with an accounting degree in 1974 and began his career as a CPA. Having had a successful career he felt the need to make more of a difference and a mid-life career change resulted in his becoming a teacher for DISD. He began at John B. Hood Middle School before becoming a fixture at Bryan Adams High School where he expanded the minds of a decade of students in the realm of multimedia, web-mastering and digital graphics. An avid golfer, Steve could be found every weekend chasing the little white ball around on any of a number of the courses in Dallas and the surrounding areas. Though not a conventionally superior golfer there were few who enjoyed the sport more. His enthusiasm for life was an inspiration for his children and the many friends whose company he enjoyed. Diagnosed with ALS in December 2010, Steve maintained his humor throughout his ordeal, constantly inspiring his family and friends with his strength. He was much loved and admired and will be missed. Services will be held on Monday, May 20, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church beginning with visitation from 1-2 followed immediately with a memorial service. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made in Steve’s name to (MDA/ALS Foundation, 12655 N. Central Expwy. #230, Dallas, Tx 75243).

Steve was my hall buddy…and what a buddy he was. A gentleman always…but a no-nonsense man who believed with every fiber of his heart that everyone tow the line, obey the rules, and work, work, work. His voice could often be heard in the hall over all the student chatter, but at the same time, when he wanted to teach me something, he was always so patient and willing to show a right-brained, spatial person what I needed to do on the computer with a soft and gentle voice. To me, his friendship goes beyond measure…all the way to Phoenix and back…he was concerned for my safety and well-being…. For his loving bride…he melted at the mere mention of her name or when he was in her presence. Thank you, Steve, for being a presence in my life! Bitter sweet as this may be, you are out of your misery, your frustration…but your wit will always be remembered for you had that till the very end. God bless you…and may He comfort your sweet and stalwart bride.
I worked with Steve at BA. He was a great teacher and an inspiration to me and his students. It was never a dull moment when he was around. My prayers and condolences are with you.
Stephen and I worked together as teachers at Bryan Adams High School. I found him to be a cheerful and fine colleague. I am sorry to hear of his passing and that he suffered through this terrible disease but it does not surprise me that he bore it well.
I always smile when I think of Steve as he always kept us laughing and smiling with his amazing sense of humor! Keeping all of the Bossarts in my prayers.Peace be with you all.
We didn’t have the chance to meet Stephen, but you were a teacher for our daughter, Carren. Please know we are thinking of you and your entire family at this time and asking God to shower all of you with peace and comfort.
We are sorry for your loss. As a fellow staff member of Bryan Adams, your dad always was willing to assist me whenever I asked. I won’t forget his kindness at the Regional Meet for not only taking over for me when Garrett was very ill. But he also made arrangements to get us home. In my prayers, Shelly.
I am so sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. Although I didn’t know Steve all that well, I did have the pleasure of knowing him through my teaching relationship with his wonderful wife, Mary Beth, and also with each of his delightful children in my classroom at S. S. Conner. I remember the warmth Steve’s family had for one another and that’s, in part, a beautiful testament to Steve’s character.
I was so sorry to hear this sad news. I remember babysitting for you when the kids were little – and having wonderful talks with Mr. Bossart when he drove me home. My prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
my condolences to the family and loved ones. I was always told by my friends that I should have taken one of his classes because he was so humorous and personable when he taught.
Mary Beth, my Prayers are with you and your family. God Bless, Nellie Ortez CDA #1719
Steve was my uncle whom shared lifelong memories of joy, laughter, and love. He found humor in every aspect of conversation and was committed to family and friends. The most memorable moment was him falling out of the golf cart while playing his passionate game of golf. I, of course, was still a teenager and the crazy golf cart driver. This is among few memories of steve. Moments that were always shared in laughter with one another even in the painful times. Such a kind generous and loving uncle that will truly be missed. My heart will stay close into finding a cure for ALS for those who still suffer due to my story with uncle Steve.
May you watch those that are still suffering Uncle Steve, and may there be a cure for something that made us hurt so deep within the family. I love you Uncle Steve, you will for sure rest in peace and we shall celebrate your life until it is our time.
My kids remember the great times we had when you first got your pool. They all send you our love and condolences. THEY HAD GREAT FUN WITH STEVE IN THAT POOL
Steve gave me my very first job out of college at Visviva in Dallas. He was very kind to me, very funny, and taught me a lot. He was a person of whom I will always have fond memories, and I am very sorry to see that he has passed.
I was one of Mr. Bossart’s students at Bryan Adams in 2002. He was such a great teacher. I took his class for fun but i learned so much from him that i have decided to major in Graphic Designs, all because of him, and now I have my own graphic design business. I was so sad to found out, that he had passed away. I was just searching online to see if he was still teaching at BA. Rest in Peace my greatest mentor, and my prayer goes to your loved ones.
Steve frequented a Golf Forum, Shottalk.com and entertained a bunch of us for years with his wit and insight. I had the pleaseure of meeting and playing golf with Steve in Texas a few years ago. He was a lovely guy with a great sense of humor. On behalf of everyone at Shottalk.com I’d liek to extend my belated condolences to his family.
My only link to Steve was online. He was a long standing member on an online golf discussion forum by the name of shottalk. I knew him more by his online handle, ‘Wirehair’.
I never met the man, but could tell he was a fantastic man with a great sense of humor. I was saddened to hear of his ALS, but he took it in stride and always spoke of his troubles in a humorous manner.
I would like to express my deepest sympathies to his family. The community of Shottalk will miss his presence greatly.
I would like to echo the sentiments of my online friends at the golf discussion forum Shottalk.com. Steve (“Wirehire”) was loved by all there and is much missed. His memory lives on.
I was Bossarts student at BA around 2001-2003, I had multiple classes, really learned alot and enjoyed Mr Bossart making fun of freshmen calling them ‘fish’ haha such a great teacher, always right to the ponit speaking his mind, one of the only teachers that I can remember from then. My condolences.
Mr. Bossart was my Mulitmedia Instructor my senior year at Bryan Adams in 2003. I was a new guy in a big world. He gave me the nickname “Oklahoma” because I transferred from Lawton, Oklahoma. He gave me deep insight in the world of multimedia and computers. His guidance motivated me to go to college for Web Design and Development. Rest Easy Mr. B.

I had web mastering and multimedia class at bryan adams high school 2002-2003. He comes to mind when I have high school flashbacks. My favorite class thanks to him.
