Obituary
It is with great heartache in loss and with great rejoicing in the hope and promise of resurrection to announce that Edwin James Carrell, 84, a native of Dallas, Texas, has joined the Church Triumphant on October 17, 2019. Edwin was born October 12, 1935 in Cooper, Texas to Louis & Cora Carrell. He grew up in Oak Cliff, graduating from Adamson High School in the class of 1954. During the Korean Conflict, Edwin served his country in the United States Army. He had a passion for Baseball, playing for Baylor University as catcher in 1960. He was a member of the Baylor B Association, former President of the Letter Winners Association and was on the Board of Directors in 1989. He worked in the Insurance Business, a career that would span over 59 years. A member of the Katie Elks Lodge, he was the Exalted Ruler from 1996-1997 as well as District Deputy Grand Master of the Gulf Coast District from 1997-1998. He loved the Lord and was an Usher for the First United Methodist Church in Downtown Dallas. Entering from the Hardwood Entrance, every Sunday guests would see his smiling face and joyful disposition. He was also a member of the Pastor Parish Relations (SPRC Ministry). He is preceded in death by his parents; and best girl “Jaycee” in April 2019. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 61 years, Karen; children James Carrell, Alan Carrell & partner Neal Stewart; Len Carrell & wife Tanisha; granddaughter Caitlin Carrell; his Parker & Associates Family; First United Methodist Church Family and the Sunday Double Aires. A celebration of his life and a witness to the resurrection will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 2pm at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Dallas, in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked contributions in Edwin’s honor to St. Jude’s Hospital or the First United Methodist Church.
