Cook, Dakota (Cody) M.

Dakota (Cody) Miller Cook, age 25, of the Dallas, Texas area and formerly of Oregon, Wisconsin, suddenly passed away on September 30, 2019 at Methodist Dallas Hospital due to an unforeseen arteriovenous malformation which caused a brain hemorrhage. Cody made a decision to follow Jesus as a child and his family is comforted to know that he is in God’s hands now. Cody was born in Lansing, Michigan on October 31, 1993, to Frank Miller and Jamie Burrell. On April 1, 1996, Cody was placed in the foster home of H Gary and Colet (Markham) Cook and adopted by the Cooks in May of 1997.  Oh, what joy he brought to Gary and Colet who were thrilled to finally be parents. He moved from Michigan with his family to Oregon, Wisconsin at 4 years of age to be closer to Colet’s family in Brodhead, Wisconsin. Cody was a smart, adventurous, and creative boy and man, skilled in athletics, music, art, and hands-on work. Cody enjoyed trucks, boats, motorcycles, hunting and fishing. Cody went to elementary and middle school in Oregon, Wisconsin. His high school years were spent at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin and Master’s Ranch Christian Academy, in Couch, Missouri. Cody graduated from the Missouri Welding Institute in Nevada, Missouri with a Master Pipe Welding and Fitting Certificate in 2012. Cody then moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area and worked in the manufacturing and oil industry as a journeyman welder. He held a variety of welding and fitting positions throughout Texas and Oklahoma, including work as a welder for SpaceX in Texas and Florida. In Texas, Cody made many close friends and associates who considered him part of their families. It was heartwarming to his family to know he was so loved and respected by his Texas welding and other friends for his generosity, humor, and kindness. He had excelled beyond his years in his welding skills, known as a very determined, hard worker. Recently he had aspirations to return to school, possibly to become a pilot. Shortly after his passing, a memorial service was held in Dallas to allow his Texas friends to say goodbye. Cody was an organ and tissue donor, so his life has gone on to save and improve many lives. Cody had registered as a donor when he was 19 years old. His family urges everyone to consider registering as an organ and tissue donor with their state registry if they have not previously designated this on their driver’s license, regardless of their health history. A celebration of Cody’s life will be held on October 26, 2019 at LakeView Church, 2200 Lincoln Ave, Stoughton, Wisconsin, visitation from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, with a service at 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon. Cody is survived by his parents, H Gary and Colet (Markham) Cook and brother, Alexander Cook, all of Oregon, WI, grandmother, Carol Cook, and uncles, Kim (Kathy), Kurt (Barb), Kent (Vicki) Markham, Alan (Mike) Cook and Julio (Marissa) Rodriguez, and aunts, Colleen (Markham) Jennings and Jackie Cook, and many cousins, and birth family, including his birth parents, Jamie Burrell and Frank Miller, birth siblings, Andrew Burtle and Amy Bevington, and aunt, Tammy (Andy) Bevington. Cody was predeceased by his grandparents, Dan and Helen Markham and Howard Cook and a birth brother, Frank Miller, Jr. in infancy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Dakota Cook’s name to: Methodist Dallas Hospital: designate the transplant institute or neuro critical care. Or Master’s Ranch and Christian Academy, Donate or Make a Payment | Masters Ranch Christian Academy designate for the welding school. The family wants to especially thank their LakeView Church family; Lisa and Brian Monthey, Mason Ferguson, Mike and Susan Luttrell, Dakota’s Texas family; Jeff (Dakota’s welding mentor) and Rhonda Faulkner; his welding coworkers; and his Master’s Ranch friends for their love and support and stories of Dakota. Also, we thank the Johnson County, Texas EMS, Methodist Mansfield Hospital, Methodist Dallas Hospital, and the Southwest Transplant Alliance for their wonderful care for Dakota and support of his loved ones during this heartbreaking tragedy. The Lord gives and takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. God could have done a miracle and healed Cody, but He chose not to. We don’t know why, but we know He is in control and He is good. We trust in Him and His love. Please pray for the recipients of Dakota’s organs and tissues, that they would live long, healthy lives.
