We are heartbroken. Don was much loved, and will be sorely missed.
Cousin Cindy and Barry
What a Warrior! Thru it all Cousin Don never once complained or asked. You had to pry to find out how HE was doing. His calm demeanor and love for family is how we will forever remember our beloved cousin. May he rest comfortably in the cradling arms of our Creator and Saviour. We too will miss him!
Don was a great lifelong friend.
We met at UT during Freshman orientation. We were the “Dons in Aerospace Engineering”. We shared a lifelong interest and vision for spaceflight.
He took me flying once after getting his pilot’s license. Later, I shared with him my own journey to the same.
We’d correspond via email largely, sometimes one month, sometimes six would go by as we both fulfilled our family roles. He managed to visit us in Oregon — sadly I did not manage to reciprocate.
Don was steady and soft spoken, even keeled, and practical even while taken by the vision of humanity in the future. He was a loyal and great lifelong friend. I miss him.
My uncle Don always treated his nieces and nephews as if they were his own, full of patience, kindness and a servanthood heart. He was so sweet with his voice when asking us what cereal we wanted for breakfast. He was also sweet and tender when waking us up with a pat on our back or shoulder. He had a great sense of humor and always encouraged us with our passions and dreams. Like his daughter Linda, great smile and ready to make any day awesome no matter what the obstacle was. He managed to get me out of a swing I got stuck into once as well, he wasn’t mad, he just kindly and gently lifted me out. Long story short, my uncle was like the best dad I never had and now he is at peace and I’m thankful to have lived many weeks and weekends along side him and my cousins, creating memories and really enjoying the little things in life. Deepest condolences to my family. There are too many words and they all get stuck in your throat, we are with you and love you all so much. Praying for strength, peace and courage to continue living life to the fullest and enjoying the little things with loved ones. Lots of hugs.
