Fleming, James "Cotton"

James (Jim) “Cotton” Fleming passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at the age of 81. He was a member of Redeemer Bible Church in Dallas, Texas and loved others like God loved him which provided a confidence for his family and friends. His love and laughter were contagious as he shared the wisdom and words of Jesus Christ. Jim was a great example of a loving husband of 54 years and an inspiring leader for his family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of sharing stories of his past as well as his enjoyment of life and his positive outlook.

Jim was born in Oilton, Oklahoma and spent much of his childhood exploring the oil camps of Oklahoma where his father was employed. After completing high school in Shawnee where he was president of his senior class, he graduated from Oklahoma State University. At OSU he was an accomplished athlete as a 3 year starting point guard on the men’s basketball team playing for OSU coaching legend Henry “Hank” Iba. In addition, he was part of the OSU men’s mile relay team in 1958 that held the Official World Record for many years. Following a varied career path in sales, Jim ended up in the insurance industry where he was associated with Third Party Administrators, the first company in Texas to be in that field. He also enjoyed travel and new adventures throughout almost all of the US and much of Europe.

He is survived by his loving wife Ann (Mayer) Fleming; daughter Christine (Fleming) Brenish and husband Kenyon of Park City, UT; son in law Phil Peterson of Isanti, MN; grandchildren Landon and Harmony Brenish, Jamie and Austin Peterson; brother in law George Mayer and Edward Wesley; sister in law Renate Fleming of Tulsa, OK and nephew Ricky Fleming of Wichita, KS.
