Gabor, Johnie
Obituary
Johnie Gabor, 88, peacefully passed away on March 24, 2016 in the home she loved. She is now reunited in heaven with husband Ted, her life-long love of 72 years. Johnie is in God’s loving hands now, but will forever be in our hearts and minds. She is survived by sons Michael Gabor, Marcus and wife Lesli Gabor and granddaughter Natalie Gabor, of whom she was so proud and gave her so much happiness; and nieces and nephews that she loved so much. Born in Quitman, Texas, Johnie was the daughter of Cleveland & May Whidby and is preceded in death by husband Theodore (Ted) Gabor, infant daughter Karen, sisters Evelyn Raley, Lois Sparks and brother Paul Whidby and her faithful companion and loving dog, Alex. Johnie was a devoted and active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and tirelessly worked to make this a better world, volunteering for many charities, including the Ladies of Charity. An avid reader and articulate writer who blessed her family and friends over the years with many beautifully written, impassioned sentiments that lifted our spirits and will be forever treasured and remembered. She was a lover of nature, planting beautiful flowers every spring and spending countless hours appreciating the wonderment of the many birds who visited her welcoming yard. An excellent cook who loved family dinners and pleasing others with her amazing creations. (Our special sympathies to those who never had the opportunity to enjoy one of Johnie’s holiday meals.) A loving matriarch who leaves an enormous void to all who knew and loved her. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, April 6 at 10 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 6306 Kenwood Ave, Dallas with Father John Libone to officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Johnie Gabor’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Thomas Aquinas Church or to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.

Johnie was my friend for over forty years. We had so much in common. She loved a good laugh, a good talk, always being there when you needed encouragement. She loved her family and was so proud of Natalie. Johnie loved her dogs, Alex I and II and they loved her back. She had a way of saying “Hi” that made people feel special. I will miss her.
Dear Marcus and family, I am heartsick that I did not know of your sweet mother’s death until today. Please know I would have been at her funeral. She and I shared many fun times when you and David were at Hotchkiss. Such a very special person of deep faith plus a wonderful mother to one of my favorite young men. Please give my sympathy to your entire family. Love, Jodie Vaughan
