Obituary

Billy Green, beloved friend, brother, uncle, and partner in life joined his creator’s glory in the evening on February 19.  Born on February 27, 1950, in Little Rock, AR, Billy was raised in North Little Rock, AR, and attended North Little Rock High School.  Awarded a college scholarship, he was accepted to Hendrix College in Conway, AR, where he excelled in the mathematics program and was eager to learn from the information technology classes, which were on the forefront on education at the time.  His beautiful voice gave light to the remarkable choir at Hendrix.  Billy’s love of animals, especially dogs, was complemented by his adopted “granny” who groomed and raised poodles, giving him the opportunity to spend his summers helping and learning from the love of the beloved pets.  She also was his guide to Sunday services where he developed a lifelong love of Christ and Creator.  Upon graduation, Billy proceeded to a career in information technology, which brought him to positions in Dallas, TX, Santa Clara, CA, and eventually Little Rock, where he became the Data Center Manager at Baptist Medical Center.  Billy’s gifts of love for others, stewardship and devotion to life were tremendous assets to the healthcare system of Baptist Health.  Billy remained active in church life as choir member, pastoral counselor and confidant.  All who were fortunate enough to know him in life new the blessing of immediate warmth and friendship that flowed from him so naturally.  After a long and rewarding career with Baptist Health, Billy was diagnosed with heart disease.  For the following fourteen years he endured many health hurdles and all the while his beautiful soul continued to shine for others.  In 1999, he and his partner in life, Steven Spain, relocated to Dallas, where he continued to enjoy many new journeys, friendships and joys.  Dearest Billy, your love and spirit have taught us to live better and you will forever sing in our hearts.  Billy was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles and Vestal Green, his brother Jimmy Fred Green and his grandmother Maggie Green.  Additionally, beloved pets Snoopy, Joker, Jewels, Jasmine, Sheba, Rene’ and little Pepe’ have been waiting just over the rainbow bridge to greet him.  Billy is survived by his partner in life Steven Spain, precious pet Pierre, sister’s Charley McAfee (husband Mac), Addie Gassman (husband Ronnie), Pat Scruggs (husband Danny), brother Richard Green (wife Carol) and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews whom he loved unconditionally.  To Billy, family was held dear, treasured, and second only to his Creator.  He found the greatest warmth in the arms and presence of his beloved mother.  Although Billy had no children of his own, he found a way to be a special part of his nieces and nephews lives.  He was an impeccable Christian role model for them with a fabulous sense of style.  Celebrations of his life will be held in Dallas, TX, at Arlington Hall on Sunday, March 10 at 2:00 pm, and North Little Rock, AR, at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 16 at 2:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers or gifts Billy would love to see support or donations given to the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

Dearest Billy, you have always been my light and my compass. What we were blessed with transcends what most people recognize in relationships, and I am truly grateful and forever blessed having shared our lives together. These words are small, but then, we never needed words. Play now, my dearest love, with your new strengths and know you will always be my heart.

We can shed tears that you are gone, or we can smile because you lived.
We can close our eyes and pray that you’ll come back, or we can open our eyes and see all that you left.
Our hearts can be empty because we can’t see you, or we can be full of the love that you shared.
We can turn our back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or we can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. We can remember him only now that he is gone, or we can cherish his memory and let it live on.
Billy, you will truly be missed. Kisses forever…

Billy was such a great guy and a supportive co-worker. We missed him a great deal when he left Baptist Health some years ago. He made a great contribution here.

To the family and loved ones of Billy; I extend my deepest sympathy, especially to my friend, Charley.
Billy, I am sure the angels are enjoying you among them… as they know your Christian heart, the love you shared with your family and friends, and your beautiful voice… they know you better than any! The blessing you shared touched so many, and this earthly world will never be the same without you.

Hearts were forever touched by your presence among us, and you will never be forgotten as we carry your memory with us through each day in our future.

And when Jesus tells me, “Come in, my good and faithful servant” I hope I will see Billy … waiting… and saying “What took you so long?”

We celebrate your life well lived! Rest well in His arms, dear Billy! From your new kingdom please continue to bless and take care of Steven and Pierre, and all those who will miss you from now forward! Until we all meet again!

Billy was such a sweet soul and we cherished all of our interactions with him when he entrusted his sweet poodle Pierre to us. We have a lot of wonderful clients, but Billy was such a genuine and sweet person who was always so pleasant with us. We will miss him dearly and our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this time. We will continue to spoil Pierre in his honor.

My sweet friend – I have reflected each of the days since your passing on the moments shared over 30 years. Oddly, having both ended up in Dallas from LR, we didn’t see each other often here, but the experiences we created together are forever with me. We didn’t need to speak each week for our deep and abiding friendship to endure. I can hear your voice, your expressions of faith, your laughter, your speaking my name. On a weekend long ago that we heard someone make the statement, “You may be the only living example of Christ some people ever see.” You, Billy, have often shown me Christ when I was experiencing darkness or fear, and have celebrated with me when there was joy. I celebrate with you your joy at waking in Heaven. I know you danced with joy! I pray comfort for Steven, and for your family – especially the nieces and nephews that brought you such happiness. Until we meet again, my brother. I love you –

Billy, you were a wonderful, thoughtful and caring person and and bright spot in any day that we ran into you and Pierre out in our community! I enjoyed getting to know you as our puppy “brothers” got to know each other and grow up for the past year! Thank you for always being so wonderful to Sully and I and so many others who I know will miss your smile, your guidance and great conversations “over the backyard fence”! Rest in Peace my friend!

Billy Green, You have forever changed my life, and there will not be a day that goes by, until the day that I am no longer on this earth, that I will not think of you. You left a beautiful legacy for everyone that has ever crossed your path. I feel so incredibly blessed and honored that you chose me as your friend. Although now it’s difficult to think of you and not cry, just today I have been able to remember our “memories”, like our trip to Las Vegas, and on and on… I remember few times in my life having as much fun as the the times I shared with you. It was always so easy to be with you. Whether we were having a deep conversation or just laying around doing, whatever, it was special. The times you, Steven and me went to Mama’s Daughter’s Diner and (every time) shared a dessert, because we are all ‘sweetaholics’, will always be a sweet memory. Those little things are now such big ones. Since today is your birthday I am quite sure you are in heaven, most likely hangin’ out with all the angels you’ve gotten to know since you arrived. You are probably entertaining them, if I know you, and I’ll bet you are blowing out the candles on the dessert Steven made for you today with a great big smile on that handsome face of yours! Oh Billy, I miss you so much, and you can be proud of the legacy you left for all of us. From the bottom of my heart, I love you..

Billy, it was a pleasure knowing you and I’m sorry our time was so brief. Thanks for letting Sully and Pierre wrestle and play and for the conversations. Perhaps in the next arena, we will have more time. Rest in peace my friend, you will be missed by many.

I was so sad to hear the news about BillY! He always had a smile on his face and a kind word whenever I ran into him in the elevator or lobby of the Mayfair. He will definitely be missed by all who knew him. My deepest sympathies to Steven and his family.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
