Holzwarth, Nona C.
Obituary
The family of Nona C. (Watson) Holzwarth would like to celebrate her entering into the presence of our Lord’s company. As a devoted member of Kavanaugh United Methodist Church in Greenville, Texas, she was a cornerstone in the choir and an inspirational Sunday School and kindergarten teacher. Born in February of 1934, Nona grew up in Brookings, South Dakota, attending South Dakota State University, earning a degree in English. She met and married Vernon A. Holzwarth, beginning a military life of adventure and travel. Vernon was an Air Force Officer, and after his retirement, the two settled in Greenville. Nona enjoyed their motor home trips in an RV, she was an avid book club reader, she loved her rose garden, and enticing hummingbirds intrigued her. Nona passed in the comfort of their retirement home in Rockwall, Texas, with Vernon, after over 65 years of marriage, at her side. Nona is survived by her husband, Vernon, her two daughters, Debra Parker and Lura Carraway, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Acknowledging fulfillment in this life, and her faith in the belief of the next, Nona reunites with her parents, brother, and sister. We can still hear her encouraging words of love and devotion, “Please do not remember me with sorrow, but with joy and laughter”. In lieu of cards or flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Robyn J. Barst Pediatric Research and Mentoring Fund via the following website: https://phassociation.org/barst-fund/. The fund is organized to promote research and mentoring of medical professionals in the pediatric pulmonary hypertension field of medicine. Nona is survived by a great granddaughter, Ellie, who suffers from idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension, an incurable and ultimately terminal disease affecting both her heart and lungs. Lura and family, PJ and I are sad to hears this news. We are sending prayers your way for strength at this most difficult time.
Nona was such a wonderful woman, was a very significant member and contributed to Kavanaugh Church, particularly to the music program. She was outstanding and will really be missed. Bless you Vern and very best wishes for the future. I certainly do appreciate Nona’s life. Tom Tillotson
I am so sorry to hear about Nona. I became acquainted when I worked with Vern at ESystems as his Secretary. My prayers for your family.
