Hughes, Nelson Graham
Obituary
Nelson Graham Hughes passed into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 16, 2013. Graham was born in Dallas on Jan 25, 1952 to Katherine Hamilton Hughes and John Nelson Hughes. He attended Highland Park High School and fondly remembered his days being known as “Rippy” and participating in the Carpenter Ranch crew. He attended The University of Texas, Austin and Eastfield College before pursuing his passion for the music industry in Austin. He was the owner of Brumski’s Bar and Grill and an agent for several bands, including The W. C. Clark Blues Revue. After tough times, he lived in Temple with family and then returned to Dallas. Graham attended Emmaus Road Ministry School and pursued a career as a painting contractor. He served as a phone counselor for the Billy Graham Ministries and many came to know Jesus because of his compassion and bold witness. Favorite family memories include basketball games on the Gillon and Dove Lane courts, Fourth of July lake house gatherings with Grambo’s guacamole, playing with his much-loved dog, Travis, and family game nights where Graham reigned as “trivia” king. An avid sports fan, Graham, cheered and moaned with the fate of his teams. He is survived by his sisters Andrea Hughes of Dallas, Kathie Kimes and husband Gene of Temple Texas, his beloved nephews and niece Britt Daniel, Christopher Daniel and wife Judie, and Katherine Daniel, and his constant encourager Amanda Heffernan. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 at 10:30 am in Wynne Chapel at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Dallas, TX 75205. In lieu of flowers, individuals may make contributions to the charity of their choice .
