Johnson-Powell, Vicki Lee
Obituary
Vicki Lee Johnson-Powell passed away peacefully this past Thursday at her home surrounded by her family. She was 77. Vicki was born Victoria Lee Lowsley on September 15th, 1942 in Norman, Oklahoma. She graduated from Norman H.S. in 1959 and married Spencer Johnson. They had three children, moved to Dallas and divorced in 1971. Vicki went to work for Republic National Bank where she stayed for 45 years, ultimately rising to serve as Vice President of the Trust Department for Bank of America. She was tirelessly devoted to her profession deriving great pride and purpose in working many 16-hour days. In 1985, Vicki met the love of her life, Jim Powell in the cafe at Nations Bank. They went on a date that evening and began a lifelong relationship. Vicki and Jim married and have lived in Dallas since. Vicki was kind, loving, gentle, and an incredibly hard worker. She was always well dressed. She was a great cheerleader for her children and grandchildren. She was very proud of her husband Jim and all their children. Vicki was also always late to any event. We never understood how or why. It drove us all nuts, but we came to love it about her. Vicki survived breast cancer in 2016. Seven weeks ago, Vicki complained of a sore left arm and forgetfulness. The doctors determined her breast cancer had metastasized as three tumors in her brain. She fought hard with radiation, but it was too little, too late. Vicki knew she was dying, but she was happy to be surrounded by family in her final days. Vicki is preceded in death by her parents and three siblings. She is survived by her three children; Cole Johnson, Lee McKinzey, and Hill Johnson, her three stepchildren Jim Powell, Jr., Catherine Juszkiewicz, and Bill Powell, and her nine grandchildren, Cash Johnson, Lily Johnson, Caroline Johnson, Samantha Johnson, Ian McKinzey, Gray McKinzey, Nathan Powell, Caleb Powell and Kensi Juszkiewicz. Funeral services will be Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 11:15 am at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Grand Prairie, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immanuel Presbyterian Church in memory of Victoria Johnson-Powell. We will miss you Mom. Please don’t keep St. Peter waiting too long.
