Obituary
David Griffith Liebmann, age 61, of Midland, Texas, passed away on February 21, 2018, in Dallas, Texas, after a long illness. David was the son of David D. Liebmann and Edith Wolf Liebmann. He was born on April 11, 1956 and grew up in San Antonio. David graduated from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio in 1974. He graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1980 with a degree in geology. David was a highly regarded geophysicist for Chevron and its predecessor companies for over 35 years. In the course of his career he lived and traveled all over the world, from Houston, to Russia, and North Africa, finally settling in Midland. Outside of work, David was active in promoting interest and education in the sciences of geophysics and geology as a leader in the Permian Basin Geophysical Society. David was also proud of his San Antonio heritage and was a member of the German Club and the Order of the Alamo. David was a quiet, kind and patient gentleman. He was understanding, compassionate and always willing to lend an ear and a hand to help wherever he could. He was a loving son, loyal brother, favorite uncle, valued colleague and true friend. David is survived by his sister Laura Liebmann Miller and husband, Sandy, of Dallas; brother Wilhelm Liebmann and wife, Diana, of San Antonio; step-brother Robert Rigney and wife, Elizabeth, of Houston; and step-brother Spencer Rigney and wife, Sissy, of San Antonio. He is also survived by his nephew Walt Miller and wife, Traci, and their children Luke and Evan of Austin; niece Shelly Wolf Carmichael and husband, Jeff, and their daughter Claire of Keller; nephew Brent Miller and wife, Alix, of Houston; and niece Lauren Liebmann, of Waco. He was preceded in death by his father, David D. Liebmann, and his mother, Edith Wolf Liebmann. A memorial service honoring David will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at the Walnut Hill United Methodist Church located at 10066 Marsh Lane in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to the Permian Basin Geophysical Society (pbgsmidland.org) or to the Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children (sunshinecottage.org).
