Marcum, Veronica "Mickey"

Veronica “Mickey” Marcum passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 24, 2018, two weeks shy of her 95th birthday. What she will be most remembered for is her sparkling personality. All who knew her say, “She was the most fun”. The second characteristic for which she will be remembered is her Irish Catholic Heritage.

She was a Registered Nurse (RN) who served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the war, she married and dedicated her time to family. Mickey kept her RN license current for twenty-five years, eventually working at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. She remained at Methodist Hospital until she retired in 1993 at age 70. In retirement, she volunteered at MD Anderson Medical Center for another twenty years. Her RN license was still active at the time of her death.

She was most proud of her children; Erin Marcum Wall (son Toby Marcum Wall), Candy Marcum and Pamela Marcum. Mickey is survived by Candy (spouse Carolyn Hall), Pamela (Spouse Bill Crowden) and her grandson, Toby Marcum Wall (Spouse Kate Wall).

She is also survived by her older sister, Oona Kitowski and her nieces, Colleen Kitowski, Shannon Brumfield, Kaki Davies and nephew Fred Brumfield.

Private Family Burial will be in March at the family plot in San Antonio, Texas.

The GLBT Chamber of Commerce Foundation has announced the creation of the Veronica Marcum Scholarship Fund for students in or entering nursing programs in Texas. The fund was created by Candy Marcum and Carolyn Hall, long-time leaders in the LGBT equality movement, to honor Candy’s mother, Veronica

All, I am so, so sorry to hear about Mickey. Now only Mom and Judy are left from the original Dayton Road group. The obituary says she was surrounded by family and I am so glad about that. She loved you more than I can even express. I will be thinking about you and holding every good thought. Glynna
