December 3, 1949 - February 27, 2013
“ . . . the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Tim 6-7” David Carleton McLaurin, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died fearlessly and peacefully February 27, 2013. Born on December 3, 1949, David was a West Texas boy. He graduated from Permian High School where he was proud to be a member of the Panther football team and a lifelong supporter of Mojo. David graduated from Rice University in 1973, where he forged friendships that lasted throughout his life. David’s love for his church and his faith were an essential part of who he was. He served many years on the staff at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church with a passion for helping others. He was loved by the staff and congregation and he loved them in return. In particular, he cherished his fellow Brothers in Christ and his friends from Houston’s St. Luke’s Study Class. He is survived by his wife of more than forty years, Kathleen Ryan McLaurin, and his children, the light of his life, Sarah McLaurin, Annie McLaurin Reinert and her husband, Wesley Reinert, and his son, Ryan David McLaurin and wife Lindsay McLaurin. He was a doting grandfather and like his father before him, known as “Daddy Mac,” to his precious grandchildren, David Christopher McLaurin, Finley Marie Reinert, and Scout McLaurin Reinert. David is also survived by his sister, Teddie Lynette Jackson and her husband Jim Jackson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Smart, thoughtful, generous, and with a famous sense of humor David was loved by many, but by no one more than his best friend, Kathleen. He set an example of a Christian life and he will be remembered forever by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2nd at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the David McLaurin Outreach Fund at Lovers Lane UMC, 9200 Inwood Rd, Dallas, TX 75220.
