Melnitchenko, Mark Eugene

Mark Eugene Melnitchenko, 56, of Dallas, Texas passed away suddenly on Friday November 29th.  He was the husband of Sherri Taylor Melnitchenko. They shared almost eighteen years of partnership together.  Mark had been recovering from a knee procedure, which resulted in complications leading to his sudden and unexpected death.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 26, 1963 he was the son of Eugene and the late Valentina “Val” Melnitchenko, and younger brother of Dereck. He graduated from Garden City High School in Garden City, NY and moved to Dallas with his family in 1980. He graduated from Richland College and The University of North Texas in Denton, TX with an Engineering Degree. Mark had a long career in the environmental engineering field, spending the last 18 years as a Senior Environmental Manager at Abacus Environment.

He dedicated himself to his family, friends and the many joys his hobbies graced him with.  He loved soccer, music and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, kayaking, golf and sport fishing.  He also loved to travel, making many trips to the mountains of Colorado, New Orleans, Texas beaches and his beloved Costa Rica as often as his schedule allowed.  He will be remembered for his loyal heart, generous spirit, warm smile and big laugh. Mark’s passing will leave an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his partner, Sherri Taylor Melnitchenko; her children Gunner Pederson and his spouse, Kelsey Garland;  and daughter Megan Pederson; her grandchildren Case and Hayden; His father, Eugene Melnitchenko and his wife, Helen of Chesapeake Beach MD;  Brother Dereck and his wife Leigh  of Jackson, NJ;. Mark was both a stepbrother to me, but more a “cousin” to me in my younger years. His mother, Valentina, was my godmother. So I have known this family a long time. Mark’s father, Gene, stood in for my godfather, Ihor (now 90, who I am very close to). I remember skating with him and his brother in NY

Mark was such a sweet and gentle person. Always caring and thoughtful. Our days at BCM were so enjoyable with Mark bringing treats on Fridays. To Mark's family, God needed Mark's voice for HIS choir so he could sing with my son. Peace be with your family and you will forever be in my heart and prayers.
Much love to all of you. MJ
