Obituary

Mouton, Thomas Schley (Tom) of Garland, Texas passed away peacefully on October 27, 2013, with his family by his side.

Tom was born in Beaumont, Texas on March 22, 1932 to Joseph William Mouton Jr. and Jewel Schley Mouton.  He was the middle of 5 children, born after Joe Edwin and Eugenia (Genie) Mouton Coffin, and before Kate (Katie) Mouton Tompkins and James Brooks (Jim).

He proudly served in the US Navy from 1954 – 1956 where he held several different positions, including Courier.  These positions provided him with many interesting stories to tell his family and friends over the years.  After his discharge from the Navy, he returned home and married Macil Joanne Spillar Mouton on January 28, 1956.

Tom returned to college and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.  Over the course of his life, he held numerous jobs, moving with his family to Midland, Texas to work for Mobil Oil, then to Tulsa, Ok also with Mobile, then to San Antonio where he worked for the Texas Hospital Association, and eventually retiring from his longtime position as the head of the department of Industrial Engineering at Baylor University Medical Center (Dallas) in 1993.

Tom enjoyed inventing and building things his whole life, from furniture, toys, and vehicles for his kids and grandkids, to all kinds of handy things that can be found throughout the Mouton household.  His biggest project was building the family “cabin in the woods” in Commerce from the ground up, with son David at his side.  Tom also enjoyed hours on the golf course with his golf buddies, and of course the rivalry of the annual sibling golf tournament. He spent a lot of time at home with his beloved granddaughters, and also made several trips along with his wife Joanne, to California to spend time with his grandsons there.

He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Joanne Mouton, daughter Debi Aiello and husband Tony, son David Mouton and wife Dhana, and 5 grandchildren: Joey, John & Tom Aiello, and Sydney & Morgan Mouton.  He is survived by his sisters Genie Coffin & Katie Tompkins, and brother Jim Mouton.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jewel Mouton, and brother Joe Mouton.

Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your loved one. This is one of the most difficult things we must face in this life. May it comfort you to know that others are deeply touched by your loss. But the bible assures us at Psalms 34:18 that God is near to those broken in heart and those crushed in spirit he saves. He also promises that we will be able to see our loved ones again. Jesus own words found at John 5:28,29 tells us there will be a resurrection. What a wonderful hope! He also promises that soon on the earth there will be no more pain, suffering and especially death. Revelation 21:3-5 We anxiously await the day when we will no longer lose those we love. May these bible thoughts bring you comfort at this most difficult time.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
