Nelson, Stephen L.

Stephen Livingstone Nelson, 92 years old, died July 16, 2013.   Steve’s parents, William E. and Julia (Blair) Nelson, were serving the United Methodist Church as missionaries in Africa at the time of his birth.  Steve was born in Quiongua, Pungo Andongo, Angola.  He graduated from Thurmont High School (Maryland) and went on to receive his B.A. (Cum Laude) from Asbury College in Wilmore, KY at the age of 19.  The following year, he graduated from Ohio State University with a Master’s in Social Administration.

After many years as chief executive of United Way chapters in cities including Savannah, Memphis and San Francisco, Steve went into business for himself in 1971. He started a small business called Fiber-Seal, through which he met the love of his life, Nancy Tielens.  Steve and Nancy’s combined family sported a total of nine children (Steve’s six and Nancy’s three), with as many as eight kids living at home during the early years.

Steve loved Nancy, his kids and grandkids with all his heart.  Enterpreneur, writer, philosopher, aspiring chef, comedian and all around sweet fun guy, he will be dearly missed.

Steve was preceeded in death by two of his children, Elizabeth Nelson and Tod Nelson, as well as his older brother, Paul A. Nelson of Dallas. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and daughters Debbie Howard, Lorelle Nelson, Tamera Tielens and Cathy Lawson.  Surviving sons are Tim Nelson, Stephen L. Nelson, Jr. and Christopher Tielens.  Steve’s grandchildren are Michelle Oddo, Samantha King and Sydney King.

Memorial Celebration will take place at 2pm on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Primrose at Park Villas, 2519 John West Rd, Dallas, TX  75228.  Donations in Steve’s memory may be made to The Arc.  https://www.thearc.org/donate

Nancy and family.
Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of of your husband and father.I am thankful for meeting Steve in1982. Being the great salesman that he is, he convinced me to be involved with Fiber Seal in the Cleveland Ohio area.
What a wonderful meeting that turned out to be.
My involvement with Fiber Seal has enabled me to make a great living, raise my children and be prepared for retirement. I am so grateful for that 1982 meeting.
I have fond memories of Steve and will miss our many phone discussions that have occurred over these many years. Again, my deepest sympathy to all who loved him.
