Funk, Robert "Bob" C.
Obituary
Robert Calvin “Bob” Funk Went to his eternal resting place on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 90 years of age. Bob was born on October 13, 1924 to Julia Margaret Hastings Funk and Lawrence W. Funk in Hays, KS. Bob was married to the love of his life; Donna Louise Gunter Funk and they shared 63 years together. They lived together for over 60 of those years in Shreveport, Louisiana and moved to Carrollton, TX in 2013 and resided at Lakeview. He served in the Navy during WW II (1943-1946) as a Pharmacist Mate and was off Omaha Beach on D Day on LST-511. Bob enjoyed playing golf. The love of the game began, when as a teenager he would caddy to help earn income for the family. He played collegiately at Kansas State and was able to enjoy the company of family and friends over the many rounds he was able to play into his early 80’s. Bob also gave back in community service. He helped create and volunteered for the ‘YardBirds’ at North Highlands Methodist Church and helped to maintain the property and grounds around the church. He helped found and devoted many a weekend in service of the Shreveport District Wheelchair Ramp Ministry as the ‘master’ cutter for the crew. Creating wheelchair access ramps to accommodate people in need, he thoroughly enjoyed the appreciation of the recipients and the camaraderie of the crew. Bob is survived by his wife, Donna; his son Stuart Funk (Springfield, VA and daughter-in-law Cheryl); and his daughter Janet LaCaze (Coppell, TX and son-in-law Paul). He has four grandchildren, Meghan Funk, Laura Funk, Julia LaCaze and John Lacaze. Contributions/donations in memory of Bob can be made to the Shreveport District Wheelchair Ramp Ministry by mailing checks to North Highlands Methodist Church, c/o Ramp Ministry, 835 Poleman Road, Shreveport, LA, 71107. A committal service with military honors will be held at 11:30 A.M., Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Dallas Ft Worth National Cemetery. A celebration of his life will also be held the same day at 2:30 P.M., at Lakeview at Josey Ranch located 2105 N. Josey Lane, Carrollton, TX 75006.
