Obituary
Lisa Ann Cavanagh Schroeder, age 68, died at Vitas Healthcare Hospice on July 6, 2019. Lisa was born on July 2, 1951, in Syosset, New York. She attended schools there, graduating from Syosset High School in 1969. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree from Florida Atlantic University in August 1974. In addition to teaching at private schools in Florida and Texas, Lisa taught at the American School in Guadalajara, Mexico. She was a longtime resident of Garland, Texas where she worked for 34 years for Garland ISD until her retirement in 2015. In Garland she taught several different grades at Caldwell and Freeman Elementary Schools. She was a member of professional teacher organizations and served as a local and state Math and Science Presenter. She also developed and wrote curriculum for Garland ISD. Lisa and David Schroeder were married on February, 6, 2003 at Messiah Lutheran Church. She and David recently relocated to Richardson, Texas where they planned to live together in retirement. Lisa was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Plano, Texas and helped David teach 7th grade Sunday School. Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Frank Cavanagh who died on February 18, 2005, and Lucille Elizabeth (Downes) Cavanagh who died on January 3, 1990, both in North Fort Myers, Florida; her brother, John ‘Lance’ Cavanagh, who died on September 2, 1983 in Fort Myers, Florida; and her oldest daughter, Michele Bergman Jamison, of McKinney, who died on October 4, 2012. Lisa is survived by her husband David; a ‘son’ Scott Jamison and wife, Laura, and Scott and Michele’s children, Mia and Chase, and Laura’s children Danielle, Taylor, and Cody; daughter Sarah Schroeder Trachsel, husband Che and their children, Tiegan, Rowan, Hugo and Maier; daughter Sara Bergman Petroff and her husband, Ronnie; daughter Kira Bergman Casimir, husband Jon and their children, Kyle, Aidan, Riley and Maddison; and Rebecca Schroeder Burris and husband Michael and their children, Simon, Willa, and Arthur. She is also survived by her brothers, Patrick ‘Pat’ Cavanagh and wife Gail of Port Jefferson, New York; Peter ‘Pete’ Cavanagh of Casper, Wyoming; Michael Cavanagh and wife Diane of Katy, Texas, Kevin ‘KC’ Cavanagh and wife Cathy of Katy, Texas; and William ‘Bill’ Cavanagh and wife Tammy of Wylie, Texas. She is also survived by 15 Nephews and nieces.

Funeral Service: Saturday, July 13, 2019 – 11:00 am Messiah Lutheran Church 1801 West Plano Parkway, Plano, Texas 75075
Private internment will follow at a later date at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney, Texas.
In lieu of flowers Lisa’s family ask that her lifelong dedication to education be honored with donations of backpacks and school supplies for underprivileged students at Caldwell and Freeman Elementary Schools in Garland. Donations may be brought to Messiah for collection and distribution to the schools. Please include a card with name and address with the memorial donation.
