Joe will be remembered for his award winning fried chicken for July 4th festivities by the Burkett family. His quick (no pun intended) wit and humor will be a memorable and endearing quality that will held close to our hearts. Love you Joe!!
I have such wonderful memories with Joe and the girls. He was one amazing guy and his cherry pie always made me smile. My deepest sympathies to his girls, and his extended family. He will be missed by all but the memories will last forever. I raise my glass and say thanks for allowing me to have shared in his life.
A wonderful father, loving husband, erudite, quick-witted friend. We will miss all of that and just sitting and listening to him tell his tales. Our most sincere and deep sympathy and empathy to all his family feeling this loss. All of you are in our thoughts and our hearts as Joe will certainly always be.
Oh, Mr. Sherrod, I have such fond and wonderful memories of your family. Seems to me that you and Mrs. Sherrod raised some wonderful kids. What a legacy! Rest in Peace and give Mrs. Sherrod a hug for me.
Such an outstanding man. Joe was my teacher 1958-1960. A dedicated teacher and a terrific mentor. I owe him so much for my happiness and successes in life. RIP.
Maggie, I was saddened by the loss of this amazing man. I so enjoyed visiting with him while living at the Diplomat. I have often hought of you
two lovely people.
Sending all my love to the Sherrod family – my deepest condolences on the loss of a remarkable man. I have fond memories all the way back to middle school – coming over to do homework with Maggie, and listening to Joe and Charlotte’s wonderful stories. I will always remember Joe’s biting wit, adorable charm, that little twinkle in his eye, and his utmost devotion to his family. Cheers to a life well lived, Joe – you will be missed!
Mr. Sherrie was my history teacher my senior year (61) at Arlington Heights. He gave me a lifelong love of history that I study until this day. I am so grateful that he was my teacher that made history come alive.
My deepest sympathies to all of his family. Mr. Sherri’s will always be in my heart and mind.
What a wonderful life! Sunch a special man who gave joy and wisdom to so many! How proud you all must be of his accomplishments! Especially his cherry pie! Love and prayers to all the family!
Oh, the stories Joe could tell. I loved to listen to his tales of his travels. He had paperwork to back it up as well. And travel he did and with Maggie in tow. I imagine sometimes it was hard to keep up with him! What a sweetheart! He had an impeccable sense of style and definitely knew how to decorate. I was jealous of Maggie that she had such an expert in that department. And I’ll always have fond memories of the incredible Thanksgiving spreads that Joe and Maggie so lovingly hosted–ironed linens in our laps and all. And oh, those sweet potatoes!!! That man could cook! Mr. Sherrod was a joy and a treasure. I know his wife is happy to see him again! Love, hugs and prayers for the family. And a pat for little Piff Puff.
A celebration of life well lived and a family well loved.
Hugs Maggie
To Katie and family. So sorry for your loss. So glad I got to meet Joe in Wellington and have a lovely high tea with him, Maggie, Katie and my dad and step-mum. That day is a happy day that I will treasure. Much love.
My deepest sympathy to the Sherrod family. Mr Sherrod was my homeroom teacher at AHHS 1960-1963. Also my history teacher. Loved him. He was a wonderful person.
