Stanland, Raymond Ellis
Obituary
Raymond Ellis Stanland Jr., aged 73, died on Saturday, June 22, 2019, after suffering a massive stroke. He was born in Mobile, Alabama, where he met his loving wife of 54 years, Karen, in high school. Raymond attended Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor of Industrial Design, and the University of North Carolina, where he earned a PhD in Urban Planning. Raymond spent many years working as a city planner for the City of Dallas, and as a consultant to municipalities across the country with his planning firm Stanland & Associates. A talented artisan, Raymond’s motto was, “I could make that.” Raymond had a wide range of hobbies, including photography, stained glass, woodworking, metal working, car repair, plumbing and electrical work, and construction. He never met a project he could not accomplish. But his real hobby was helping people. He was always willing to use his talents to assist family, friends and neighbors with projects—designing and building furniture or kitchen cabinets, building or repairing fences and decks, and helping wherever needed. Raymond loved his family. In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by his daughter Kate Stanland Metzler, her husband Eric and their daughter Lilly, his daughter Christina Stanland and her husband Cristian Panaite, his sister Polly Croxton and his niece Cindy Meinhardt, his sister-in-law Barbara Taylor, four great-nephews and nieces, and numerous cousins. He will be sorely missed.
A Celebration of his Life will be held Thursday, June 27, 2019 – 10:00 am Casa Emanu-El United Methodist Church 9998 Ferguson Road Dallas, Texas 75228
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Democratic National Committee or to a charity of your choice._____________________________________ A Signature Service under the direction of: Aria Cremation Service & Funeral Home 10116 E. So sorry to hear of Raymond’s Passing. Raymond was always fun to be around. Always quick with a smile and with his diverse background, interesting to talk with. My condolences to His Family.
So sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are sent your way.
My deepest sympathy to Karen and family. I spent countless days raptly learning about airplanes, minibikes, boxing, model-making, ancient Greece and Rome, camping, and many other manly pursuits as a 4, 5, and 6 year old boy. It didn’t occur to me at the time, but he exhibited endless patience and concern with me, being 9 years his junior. I will forever have found memories of him
My deepest sympathy to Karen and family. I spent countless days raptly learning about airplanes, minibikes, boxing, model-making, ancient Greece and Rome, camping, and many other manly pursuits as a 4, 5, and 6 year old boy under his voluntary tutelege. It didn’t occur to me at the time, but he exhibited endless patience and concern with me, being 9 years his junior. I will forever have fond memories of cousin “Buddy!”
