Turner, James C.
Obituary
James C. ‘Tommy’ Turner of Dallas, Texas, died peacefully on January 15th. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Tommy never knew a stranger and loved to engage in friendly conversation wherever he went. His family is thankful for his more than 90 years of life. He was born on August 6, 1923 to Bessie and Oliver Optic Turner in Allen, Texas. Tommy grew up in west Texas, and served in the US Army in World War II, with much of his time spent in the medics. After the war, he spent time in Paris as part of the peacekeeping team. He returned to Dallas to attend Southern Methodist University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 1949. Also in 1949, he married his wife of 64+ years, Lu Hejl. Tommy and Lu had two children, Janie and Tommy. ‘Momo and Dado’ were a faithful team, loving their family and loving others well. Tommy had an adventurous career life as a manufacturer’s representative and owner of several diverse small businesses. From oil well servicing to manufacturing men’s ties, to etching photographs onto collectible guns and knives, the common thread was relationships. He loved and was loved always by friends and business associates. Tommy is survived by his wife Lu, daughter Janie Hoy (Mark Hoy), son Tommy Turner (Chris Turner), grandchildren Evan and Libby Hoy, and sister-in-law Anna Turner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Oliver O. Turner, and brother, Lee E. Turner. On January 25th, at 1:30, the services will be at University Park United Methodist Church, followed by a reception. All are also welcome at the columbarium internment at the church, which will precede the service at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to University Park United Methodist Church Foundation, 4024 Caruth Bl., Dallas, TX 75225

Lu and family:
Words cannot adequately express my sorry at the dead of Tommy. I remember on the nights that “bridge club
was at mom and dad’s, he was always laughing, having a good time, and the infectous smile seemed to just fill the room. With all you have endured these last few years, it is so difficult to understand…know you are all in my thoughts and my prayers. May God encompass you in his arms and help you find comfort and peace. Blessings…Cheryl Martin Salmon – daughter of Lucy Martin and Ernie who was there greeting Tommy at the gates of heaven.
