Obituary

On Monday, March 8, 2021, we lost our favorite singer, the life of our party, the captain of our ship, Brock Wilson. He was 53 years old. He is survived by his devoted wife of 25 years, Lara White Wilson, his son Cameron, a sophomore at Texas Tech, and his daughter, Courtney, a freshman at Highland Park High School. He is additionally survived by his father, William Jerry Wilson, his older brothers, William Jerry Wilson Jr. and Christopher Gordon Wilson, and his three half siblings, Jole’ Wilson Link, Katy Wilson Adams, and Cole Wilson. Also, two aunts, one uncle, and ten first cousins. Today, our sadness knows no bounds but going forward on every occasion possible, we will pay forward his love of life and his talent for making others happy. Brock was born in Houston, Texas to Gail Tubbs Douglas and William Jerry Wilson. He graduated from Alief Elsik High School in 1986 where he was a member of the choir, a varsity basketball player, and the lead in the senior play, The Music Man. His love for people and entertaining started young! He still holds the school record for 28 “Most Consecutive Free Throws.” Brock went on to receive a Bachelor of Journalism degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1991. While at UT, Brock was a member of the prestigious Texas Cowboys, president of the Longhorn Singers, interned at three local news stations and pursued his passion for golf. Brock was a hard-worker and paid his way through school by waiting tables and bartending at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. This led to a 13-year career with Pappas Restaurants in Austin and Houston. In 1995, he was promoted to General Manager of Pappasitos 290 in Houston. He was well respected and loved by his staff. In his spare time, Brock learned from the Pappas chefs how to grill the perfect steak. His steaks were famous among friends and family and no one could get enough of his Brockamole! In 2002, Brock changed careers in order to spend more time with his family and became a leasing associate with First Industrial in Houston. He moved up the chain quickly and relocated his family to Dallas to become Senior VP of Asset Management. For the past eight years, Brock has been part of the senior leadership team at Bradford Commercial Real Estate Services. His specialty was handling industrial leasing brokerage assignments. Most recently, he was DCEO Power Broker for 2020 and a Top Producing Broker for Bradford from 2013-2020. 32 years ago, Brock met the love of his life, Lara, as a junior at UT. He always reminded Lara how much he adored her and loved his children with the same devotion. Brock lived life to the fullest and never missed an opportunity to make others happy. His personality filled up a room and he will be greatly missed by so many. A memorial service is to be conducted at 3:30pm on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Highland Park United Methodist Church’s main sanctuary, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas 75205. Masks are required. A live video stream will be available, which will start 5 minutes before the service begins: http://online.brushfire.com/hpumc/funeral/. A reception will immediately follow at Royal Oaks Country Club, 7915 Greenville Ave, Dallas, Texas 75231. In lieu of flowers, you can help Brock fulfill his dream of an amazing education for his children by sending donations to the Brock Wilson College Memorial Fund: https://gofund.me/7bca4570

Brock was everything described in the obituary and so much more. He loved people and you were only a stranger once with Brock. He loved his family and his friends and was in his happy place when he was in any setting that involved both. From good natured ribbing to a great poker game or sporting event, he was quick wittedand warm hearted to those he cared about and spent as much time as possible with those folks and in those settings.Brock meant so much to so many, he will be missed by all those lucky enough to have crossed his path. Rest easy my friend, though you left this place far too soon, you accomplished so much and were loved by so many. Look down on your beautiful family and be proud of how your kids turned out and how the love you and Laura have shined through in them on a daily basis. Thanks for the laughs, the lessons, the links and the life logic you enlightened me with over the years and all our memorable experiences. Much love to the family and prayers for strength and love during this difficult time ❤

Amazingly, two nights ago I week dreamed
    about Brock singing in
the Music Man! We had so much fun showcasing his talent in that production. He was a wonderful leader by example and humble team player. Please know what a joy it was to be his teacher. And accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of this fine man.

Brock and my older brother E.J. were best friends growing up in high school. Brock would pick up my older brother every morning and drive him to school in the mornings. Brock was kind enough to let me catch a ride too. He was a class act guy. It’s very sad to hear he’s left us. I pray for comfort to his family. Be with God my friend. Thank you for being so kind to me.

Brock was such a preppy cool guy. I remember my 2nd day of freshman year at Elsik HS in biology class that he passed me a note saying that he would like to be friends with me… mark yes or no. He was always so sweet! Of course I marked yes. We stayed good friends throughout High School and saw him at a 1 or 2 of Elsik reunions. Although we knew each other in school and sometimes after school for 3 consecutive years; those were the years we were all figuring out about life and it was when we went from kids to adults… at least he did. Haha. Brock seemed to have things planned and very organized. He always dressed to the nines and was such a gentleman. Of course like a lot of us do, we fall out of communication because this world goes so fast. But… in Alief, once a friend; a friend forever. We all wish we could keep up with all our Alief friends but it’s clearly impossible. While Brock was playing Basketball, I was a cheerleader thinking “wow, he does it all; sports, sing, theater, and was so intelligent. Not to mention, he was a cutie; especially when he wore his pink pants and green shirt or visa-versa. He popped his collars and always had well styled hair to go along with his stylish clothes as if he just stepped out of a GQ Magazine. He was always confident and would help anyone if they needed it. He always hung with EJ Flores and Philip (Fuzz) Raney.. they were the 3 musketeers of Elsik.
Fast Forward and to sum it up, Lara, Cameron, and Courtney, his mom and dad, brothers, other family members, friends, and colleagues had a wonderful person in their life! Now they have a wonderful angel. I am definitely a better person today just by getting to know Brock; even if it was a short period of time. My condolences to the entire family and all friends that share in the heartache of Brock passing. May God be with you.
    Vaya con Dios Brock!

We are all so sorry. We really enjoyed Brock so much and he had such a happy disposition and quick and easy smile. So many fun memories of being with you through Hyer and Lax and on. It was so obvious how much he loved all of you. We will miss him and are praying for all of you. He was such a great guy.

So many amazing memories I had the pleasure of enjoying with Brock. We originally met at Pappadeaux and immediately hit it off. His dynamic personality and fun loving attitude we’re contagious. Brock and I spent many hours on the golf course honing our games and constantly bringing the best out in both of us.

I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Lara early on. What a wonderful bond they shared. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to spend so many incredible years with Brock. He will sorely be missed and will forever live in my memories.

Although Brock is no longer with us, he should be extremely proud of the legacy he has left behind. He has two amazing children Cameron and Courtney, who I’m sure will grow into fine young adults.

I too was a member of the Elsik Choir and Basketball team with Brock. I recall many times performing the National Anthem in our required dress attire then both of us rushing back to the locker room to change into our basketball gear so we could be on the court for tip-off! Well, Brock on the court, me on the bench. Good times! Great Man! Rest in Peace brother.

Lara, Cameron and Courtney. Speechlessness is not a common trait for me being a part of Brock’s Mom’s side. When I learned of Brock’s passing, I didn’t know what to say. I now know to say to you that you were all blessed in being a part of him and his life. My hope is that his memories, life lessons, and love help you carry on until you are with him again. I really believe that our loved ones stay with us and I KNOW he is with you 3 always!!!! My love and prayers are with you too. – Rachael Boucher, Brock’s cousin.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
